I don't have a Kindle either, but I'm able to download these free books onto my laptop using Amazon's free reading app. It's not quite as convenient as a Kindle, but so far it's working pretty well. I've gotten several free books this way.
I'm a Prime member and it says it's $3.99! That is weird! Thanks for the tip!
It looks like Amazon changed the price on this ebook. Kindle ebook prices can change at any time without notice. I was able to download this ebook for free yesterday.
If you own a Kindle, Prime members can "borrow" this book {and many others} for free through the lending library.
